- 01
Find the nameplate.
On Onan QD marine generators it is on the side of the control box. Wipe it clean before you read or photograph it.
- 02
Read the whole model number.
The spec letter is the last character. It changes when Cummins makes a significant production change, and it decides which parts fit.
- 03
Read the serial number.
Every character, as it appears on the plate.
- 04
Add the running hours.
The Onan Digital Display shows them. They tell us which service items are due.
Plate missing or unreadable?
Send the serial number if you can find it stamped on the set, or photos of the generator from each side with the boat’s name, builder and model. If there is neither a plate nor a serial number, we may need to see the set to identify it.
Why the spec letter matters.
Two sets with the same model name can take different parts if their spec letters differ. Quoting the full model with its spec letter, and the serial number, is how we make sure the part fits first time.
Got the details?
Send them, or a photo of the plate, and we will match parts and the Cruise Kit to your set.
Based on Cummins’ guidance on identifying a generator set model and the Onan marine operator’s manual.
